Family Sponsorship

Canada is in favor of family reunification, and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident can apply to sponsor her/his spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner, or dependent child(ren) to immigrate to Canada as a permanent resident. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident can also sponsor his or her parents or grandparents.

In certain limited cases, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, may sponsor other relatives, such as a minor sister or brother, or an aunt or uncle.

The sponsor and the sponsored person must meet certain immigration requirements to qualify. All applicants must also meet the medical, criminal and background requirements at the discretion of the Canadian Federal Government. Family Sponsorship can be a complex procedure. Applications need to be prepared carefully, correctly and completely to improve your chances of approval and avoid any refusal or inadmissibility.
